The Tasmanian Visitor Survey provides a profile of the characteristics, travel behaviour and expenditure of international and domestic visitors to Tasmania. The survey reports specific information like average length of stay, spending and also attractions and locations visited. The latest findings and trend forecasts are available from the Market Research Unit of Tourism Tasmania.

There was a steady growth in the number of visitors to Tasmania in the year ending March 2008, with 842,000 people visiting the State on scheduled air and sea services, an increase of 4% on the previous year.

Intrastate travel continues to dominate visitor activity in Tasmania, with an estimated 5.5 million day and overnight trips taken by Tasmanians within the State over the past year. The number of interstate visitors increased by 6% to 740,000 with the number of international visitors remaining the same as for the previous year (155,700). The number of cruise ship visitors increased by 27% over the year to 73,800.
