The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources has a number of key projects aimed at better understanding the relationship between land use, transport and infrastructure networks and facilitating improved strategic transport and planning incomes. These projects include:
  • Brighton Bypass
This project, funded by the Australian Government, will upgrade the Midland Highway to the north of Hobart and will provide improved connections to and support for the development of the new freight transport hub at Brighton. It will also address traffic movement, safety and amenity issues associated with a major freight route passing through the towns of Brighton and Pontville.

It is expected the project will be constructed between late 2009 and late 2012.

  • Brighton Transport Hub
A new purpose-built road and rail transport hub for train and container freight movements that will provide major benefits to the State through improved freight productivity, rail efficiency and reduced travel times to northern ports.

Construction will be undertaken concurrently with the Brighton Bypass, with completion due in September 2011.
