Australian Bulk Minerals is a subsidiary of Stemcor Pellets Ltd, a London based company involved in the international distribution of steel and raw materials. The company operates an iron ore mine at Savage River and produces iron ore pellets and concentrate at its Port Latta facility in north-west Tasmania.
Performance
A mineral resource of over 280 million tonnes and ore reserves of more than 55 million tonnes of iron ore have been identified at Savage River, 100 kilometres south-west of Burnie. Australian Bulk Minerals has supplied blast furnace pellets to major steel producers in the Asia Pacific region since 1997.
Future production
Australian Bulk Minerals expects to produce approximately 2.5 million tonnes per annum of iron ore pellets. The company is considering an increase to the production capacity of the existing process plants and further development of the resource to extend the mine life beyond 2023.
