Australian Paper operates two paper mills in Tasmania at Wesley Vale and Burnie. It also operates mills in Maryvale, Victoria and Shoalhaven, New South Wales.
The Wesley Vale mill operates one paper machine, including an on-line coating operation. The mill produces up to 44,000 tonnes of pulp and 160,000 tonnes of single and double-coated papers.
The Burnie mill has two paper machines producing up to 130,000 tonnes of laser and off-set printing papers as well as coating base for the Wesley Vale mill operations.
The mills are supported by two on-site mechanical pulp mills. All fibres used are from plantation and sustainable managed forests.
Environmental Management Systems are in place at both mills, with a set of strict environmental performance standards. These systems undergo constant revision and updating to ensure continuous improvement as well as regular environmental audits. The mills have received internationally recognised ISO 14001 environmental certification.
Both mills undertake recycling as standard practice, both during and after the manufacturing process. They also have a comprehensive marine monitoring program in place. The Burnie mill also makes extensive use of alternative energy sources.
