Principle business activities

 

Aurora Energy is a Tasmanian Government-owned electricity distribution and retail company, formed in 1998. The company operates at sites around Tasmania, with four major resource centres located at Cambridge, Rocherlea, Devonport and Burnie.

 

The company operates within several business areas, including:

  • retail - customer services including electricity and gas sales to business and residential customers
  • network - management and development of distribution assets including poles, lines and substations
  • new ventures - creation of new business opportunities through developing new lines of business or new technology to improve existing businesses.

Performance

During the 2006 / 07 financial year the company generated $806 million in revenue, provided a 12.3% return on investment and managed core assets valued at $1,019 million. Electricity sales reached 10,484 million kWh, with the company securing new national electricity customers. Profit after tax for the year 2006 / 07 was $32.5 million, up $18.2 million from the previous year.

 

Future production

Auora Energy's strategy is to provide complementary customer solutions in energy, telecommunications and utility infrastructure services to Tasmanian homes and businesses, and to niche markets outside Tasmania.
