Tasmania's finances are the responsibility of the Department of Treasury and Finance, under the control of the Treasurer.
The functions of the Department of Treasury and Finance are to:
- provide advice to Government on economic issues, including financial and taxation policy issues
- provide advice to Government on financial issues that arise between the State, the Commonwealth and Local Government
- prepare and monitor the State Budget
- provide policy advice to Government on the financial and resource management of Government Departments, Government Business Enterprises, Statutory Authorities and State-owned Companies, consistent with the Government's strategies and policies
- maintain accounts and prepare financial statements for the Public Account
- develop and implement the Government's reforms, policies and practices designed to improve the overall financial management of the Tasmanian public sector.
